昨晚回家匆忙吃完飯後，和母親趕赴教堂參加子夜彌撒，因當天忙著完成期限內工作和準時回家，除了神經緊繃之外，眼皮也不聽使喚，便跟母親表示：
「晚上彌撒我必定打瞌睡！」

對此，母親微笑地表示：「沒關係，『天主都知道』。」

儘管彌撒當中，自己仍然打瞌睡，但後來挽著母親的手回到家時，不知怎麼地，心中感到很平安。今天回想起來，或許近日自己在思考一個抉擇——得承認挫敗的決定時，心中交織著難以言喻感受，沒有多問我細節的母親，始終信任我所做的選擇——更好說是相信天主會看顧這一切。 

對我而言，那種挫敗的感受，很像是電影《第四個博士》(The Fourth Wise Man) 中的王子一樣，原本開心地想見到誕生的主耶穌，儘管長途跋涉尋找祂的過程中，「預定」計畫與行程一直被「耽擱」，甚至「耗盡」想呈現給主耶穌的「禮物」——分施給旅途中「意想不到但需要幫助」的人，但也在內心注入「超越外在的喜樂」。

We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.
我們無法做每件事，當意識到此，反而令我們感到寬心。 

This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.
這樣，會讓我們專心做好某些事。 

It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning,
也許並不完美，但畢竟開始向前邁進。 

a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord's grace to enter and do the rest.
這是一個天主恩寵來臨的機會，由祂完成人之未竟事宜。

We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.
我們也許未能親眼目睹最終結果，但這正是建築師與工匠的差別：

We are workers, not master builders;
我們是工匠，而不是建築師；

ministers, not messiahs.
是提供服侍的人，而不是默西亞(救世主)。

We are prophets of a future not our own.
我們是(因著天主的啟示)給人講述未來的先知，然而未來卻不屬於我們。
